To the Other Side
If I came to you and stood in your doorway
Would you greet me?
I have cheated you once, I have cheated you twice
But I think you’ll no longer miss me.
I shall sit in your boat and wait for you
To ferry me across to the other side
Where the ways of nature won’t test my nerve
Where I shall get the peace I deserve.
Why do they run away from you?
With your black robes and scythe you seem friendly
We can’t escape, we all must go through
Perhaps they are not as eager as me.
This is my stop boatman, let me off
The valley of fire is now my abode
If you find someone eager to meet you
Tell them they are not alone.
